Floor and Transom Repair
The structure of your boat lies within the transom, stingers and floor of your boat. Over time even the most well cared for boats may need to have any one of these replaced.
Transom
Your transom in your boat is wood trapped between the inner and the outer fiberglass hull of your boat. Over time moisture breaks down the wood in between. The first thing we do here is take a core sample of your transom to see if it is rotted. If you do indeed need a new transom the steps are as follows. First your motor is pulled, we cut and dig out all the bad wood all while not damaging outer hull of the boat, we then make templates and glue in the new marine grade plywood with an epoxy and finish by laminating it with a new fiberglass shell.
Signs that you need a new transom
- You can visually see that your transom has stress cracks.
- Your losing speed or your boat performance has changed.
- Your boat is taking on water and are not sure where.
Stingers and Floor
The most obvious signs that your boat is in need of a new floor is that when walking around you feel soft spots. When we repair a floor we pull up the carpet and then pull up the bad wood and fiberglass. At this point we will check the stingers and motor mounts by taking a core sample. If all checks out then we replace the bad floor with new marine grade plywood and then laminate the floor with fiberglass. If you are having your floor replaced, now is a great time to also have us replace your carpet.
